I am... Emily Eggert

I am…
Baggy t-shirts and grape jam toast on a spring Saturday,
Thick round glasses, messy hair, and stardust,
Hands raised, responding praise, made to worship everyday,
Cereal for dessert,
Milkshakes on a Sunday,
The shimmering surface sunlight touches at the bottom of a pool,
Yellow sweaters, lemon cake, and pb+j,
A barefoot brunette, highlighted hair, and dreamy blue-green eyes,
Pastel petals with morning dew on their leaves,
The smell of dirt after a rain,
Sweaters, wildflowers, and old printed novels,
Paper, pen, dreams, and a stormy day,
I am…
Reading in the quiet dawn before day,
Sipping a warm vanilla cappuccino out of my donut mug,
Wishing on feathery dandelion weeds,
Holding a London umbrella
Jumping in puddles on the street,
Telling a story, Writing all the time,
Lighting a Himalayan lamp before I go to sleep,
Laughing at Lennie Briscoe’s quips on Law & Order,
Watching stars fall from gray clouds to sweep me away,
Eating a bagel and Greek yogurt for breakfast,
Wearing a braided blue anklet that’s starting to fray,
Reading. Always reading.
I am…
Furry friends that wake me up in the morning,
A painted springtime butterfly on my Mother’s butterfly bush,
Wrapped in warm fluffy duvets,
The one that people ask to reach a high place,
Sometimes sipping green tea,
Somebody that loves to live free,
Made of sunlight,

Kind, loving, strong, and never alone.

  1. Pools in sunlight are some of the pretty sights that I love to watch

  2. This is so good! I especially love the line about the blue anklet, and it oddly creates a strong connection.

  3. I just gotta say, I love everything lemon flavored. I saw "Lemon Cake" and immediately went to the comments to tell you this. Then I kept reading. Great poem! I really like lemon cake.

  4. I also love old printed novels! I refuse to move onto eBooks even though they're all my dad talks about.
