Caged Bird Inspired Poem
I know why the silence seems stronger than the sound.
I know why a heart ache is greatest when there are no words to be found.
I don't know why
every single night
there is a lamppost on my street corner
glaring through my blinds at me
when I go to bed.
Taunting me, teasing me.
I bought dark curtains to keep the light out
But after a while the night became too dark.
With the knowledge that me and him are worlds apart
I don't know why I missed the florescent yellow glaring through my windows
I don't know why the pain in my heart comes to stay
I don't know when I became afraid.
I do know this:
I know why I open my left curtain just a bit
and let the light in.
