Color Association Poem

Red is the color of scarlet dresses, roses, lust, wine, fiery anger, betrayal, spice, rubies.

There are little red wagons, filled with books, being pulled by a child down the sidewalk to the neighborhood library
and luminous wild lip gloss confidently mouthing the words to a song at night.
Red feels like the anger of a brother betrayed
Red is the quiet moment under the stars between lovers or family as they dance side to side.

Red should be found in the poppy fields and vivid greenhouses

Red feels like summer in the snowfall
Red is the song of the wasting rose

Red should feel like power
but red smells, feels, sounds, and looks like fear.

  1. "Red is the song of the wasting rose" is so beautiful and poetic. I interpret it as a waning love, as roses typically symbolize that, but it has so meany other meanings which is what makes it just a great line.

I liked your red wagon line as it depicts a childhood that I think everyone can relate to and share. I had a small little wagon and it was red. I remember those days and I'm happy for them.

And wow that last line, should be power, but really is fear, is, ironically, powerful. And I believe it's really true because, with that connection in mind, I think of blood and murder and all that comes back to fear. Well done.

  2. The line about the red wagon filled with books instantly reminded me of Matilda. I really like the line about the lip gloss as it creates a whole other story.
